At Anti-Aging & Regenerative Associates, hormone replacement therapy for men is a vital part of our Revive Men’s Health program. If you believe you are experiencing andropause or have other symptoms of low testosterone, our team can help.
We will assess your current health and vitality and develop a customized plan to address your symptoms, prevent future concerns, and restore your youthful sense of vigor. We provide and prescribe a range of services to address hormone levels and other related medical concerns men may develop as they age.
Understanding Hormone Replacement Therapy Options
Men’s production of testosterone naturally declines as they age. By age 60, about half of all men have experienced a progressive decline to the point that their levels are low enough to cause symptoms. According to Mayo Clinic, your testosterone levels could drop as much as one percent a year, beginning between ages 30 and 40.
In addition, a man’s testosterone levels may go down because of other health conditions. This could include:
- Being overweight or obese
- Diabetes
- Thyroid disease
- Medications including steroids
At Anti-Aging & Regenerative Associates, Dr. Jason Schottel and his team provide options for hormone replacement. Our treatments focus primarily on oral and injectable methods, but others may be available.
According to Harvard Men’s Health Watch, treatment for “low T” may come in the following forms:
Testosterone Patches
A testosterone skin patch can deliver the hormone through the skin in small amounts. In most cases, the patient changes the patch once a day. This ensures they receive a steady dose of testosterone.
Topical Gels
Topical gels also deliver testosterone through the skin. The prescribing doctor can explain when, where, and how much to use based on your unique needs, but most people apply it to their shoulders and chest, upper arms, or thighs each day.
Oral Treatment
One of the easiest ways to administer hormone replacement is via oral therapy. This requires you to take a tablet or capsule once or twice a day, either by holding it in your cheek or swallowing it. This allows the testosterone to enter the bloodstream in the same way as other oral medications.
Implants
An implant may be preferable for those who do not want to deal with daily application or pills. These implants come in the form of small pellets that slowly release testosterone over a three- to six-month period. Most implants are done in the hip or buttocks and should not affect regular activities.
Injections
Testosterone injections are one of the most common methods for hormone replacement in men. Like other methods, they have some drawbacks, but many men prefer the schedule of one injection every week or two over a daily routine. Injections may cause a spike in hormone levels initially and lower levels as it gets closer to time for the next dose.
How Long Does It Take to Feel the Effects of Hormone Replacement Therapy in Men?
On its own, hormone replacement therapy can take four to six weeks to have a noticeable effect. This is because it takes time for the testosterone to build up in the system and your body to adjust to having it again. Some changes, like increased muscle mass, could take up to six months with strength training and proper nutrition.
We also provide several other anti-aging and rejuvenation therapies that could improve your low-T symptoms sooner and help you to feel better almost immediately. This includes:
- IV infusion therapy
- Erectile dysfunction treatment
- Selective androgen receptor modulators (SARMs) and peptides for strength training
- Physician-monitored weight loss or weight gain

How Do I Know If I Have a Hormone Imbalance?
Hormone imbalances in men usually mean low testosterone. This can leave you feeling “blah.” You may have chronic fatigue, feeling tired all the time. You may also experience:
- Feeling flabby, weak, and slack
- Weight gain
- Difficulty sleeping
- Thinning hair
- Low sex drive
- Extended recoveries after working out
Over time, living with low testosterone can exacerbate any of these symptoms and cause additional concerns. This could include:
- Sexual dysfunction
- Muscle loss/wasting
- Weakened immune system
- Bone loss, possibly leading to osteoporosis
- Increased body fat percentage
- Anemia
- Balding
- Depression, anxiety, and other fluctuations in mood
These symptoms can affect your physical health, mental well-being, and even self-esteem. In many cases, the best way to address these symptoms is testosterone replacement therapy or other hormone replacement therapy for men. We offer these services as well as human growth hormone (HGH) injections and other options.
