PHYSIOTHERAPY

HOW CAN PHYSIOTHERAPY HELP?

Physiotherapy is also used effectively in helping injured workers return to the workforce, people suffering from arthritis and people recovering from surgery.

Custom exercise and stretching programs help the body heal after an injury

Exercises may vary and change from patient to patient, but the goal is always the same. A rehabilitation program aims to regain pre-injury levels in all aspects of physical fitness. Correction of muscle imbalance problems around the shoulder, hip, or knee are addressed effectively with exercise rehabilitation guided by a trained professional. Core stability muscles are also an important part of the treatment of chronic lower back pain.

A full rehabilitation and strengthening program is essential to ensure full recovery and in order to prevent further injury. These exercises sometimes include muscle stretching, joint mobility exercises or muscle strengthening exercises. A rehabilitation and strengthening program is essential to ensure full recovery and in order to prevent re-injuries.

Soft Tissue Mobilization Therapy

Soft tissue mobilization techniques require a significant amount of training in human anatomy and physiology. At our clinic, our physiotherapist understand how manipulating the tissues will impact physical function and aid in the recovery from injury. We specialize in evaluation, assessment and treatment of movement function disorders.  Soft tissue mobilization is just one of the strategies that we use to help our patients meet their functional goals.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation

Electric muscle stimulation is a physical rehabilitation therapy modality that is used to stimulate muscle contractions using electrodes hooked up to an electric stimulation machine at our facility.  These contractions help to control pain, manage inflammation and strengthen the muscle.

The electrodes are placed on the effected areas of the patient’s body around the neck, back, shoulder, knee, ankle or wrist.  The therapist will then adjust the controls of the machine until the patient feels a prickly sensation and is able to comfortably target the level of stim without burning, stinging or feeling a stabbing sensation.  The stimulation will increase circulation and reduce swelling thereby reducing pain sensations.

Therapeutic Ultrasound

Ultrasound therapy helps to reduce muscle pain and movement dysfunction.  Sound waves deliver deep heat to the areas of the body that need treatment.  As a result of the sound waves, the patient benefits from reduced stiffness, swelling and pain.  Increased circulation and the promotion of pain free movement are positive effects of using ultrasound therapy.

Massage Therapy

Many people seek therapeutic massage as a natural means to promote healthy body functioning and to increase recovery time when injured.  Coupled with chiropractic adjustments and other physiotherapy modalities, massage therapy can help to improve blood circulation and muscle tone.

Most important is that therapeutic massage is an age-old remedy which has proven to be an effective complement to regenerative care. Problems in the muscular-skeletal system can impede the natural healing process and often cause dysfunction and pain. Most chiropractic doctors would agree that it is important to treat soft tissue such as muscles and tendons to help prevent and correct subluxation and lessen the accompanying pain.

Kinesio Taping

Kinesio Taping is a procedure that utilizes a special tape that helps to support chiropractic adjustments while still allowing for free range of motion within the muscles.  The tape is very thin and the wave like glue pattern allows the skin to be lifted from the affected area.

You may have noticed a lot of athletes on television using Kinesio tape.  However, Kinesio taping is not just for professional athletes.  It can be used by anyone seeking to manage pain, relax the muscles or reduce inflammation.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is a form of alternative medicine that has been used for thousands of years. It is a natural, simple procedure that everyone, from people who are professional athletes to those who work 9-5, can benefit from. It involves special cups placed on specific areas of the body and can provide many advantages to a patient’s treatment plan.

This type of deep-tissue massage has been used by Olympic athletes and celebrities to alleviate muscle pain and tension in the most strenuous of circumstances. This natural treatment is relaxing and usually involves the patient laying down. Dr. Schottel puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction in specific places. Depending on the condition, the time and placement of the cups will depend. This medication-free treatment has been proven to provide benefits by being a natural treatment that has sustained itself for thousands of years!

Graston Technique

Graston Technique® is an evidence-based form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively address scar tissue and fascia restrictions through comprehensive training, resulting in improved patient outcomes.

The technique uses specially-designed stainless steel instruments, along with appropriate therapeutic exercise, to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation. The instruments also are used diagnostically to follow the kinetic chain, to locate and treat the cause of the symptom as well as the specific area of pain.

After open heart surgery in 2020 I decided to seek out a new doctor who was knowledgeable and could help me monitor all my risk factors. moving forward.
Dr Schortel is absolutely the most knowledgeable doctor I have ever met and gives me advise on supplements I need to avoid issues and keep my blood work where it needs to be. The regular blood tests he orders are the most extensive I have ever had and he tests for more than just the regular things that other doctors do. I am very happy with the service and patient care and would highly recommend anti aging and regenerative associates to anyone serious about their health
