The aging process and our genetics often lead to hair loss. With hair loss can come a loss of self-confidence. But modern medicine now includes hair restoration techniques that did not exist several decades ago.
At Anti-Aging & Regenerative Associates, we believe in using traditional and modern methods to improve your health and well-being. That’s why we offer PRP hair restoration® to patients in Palm Coast.
What Is PRP Hair Restoration®?
PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma and is a therapy that’s been used for hair restoration since the 1980s. The process involves:
- Drawing your blood
- Separating the platelet-rich plasma
- Injecting the plasma into your scalp to increase the blood around the hair follicles and cells to stimulate hair growth and increase thickness.
The method serves as an alternative to medication and hair transplants, especially if other options haven’t been working for you. In addition, PRP hair restoration® can be used in combination with other methods, including medication and transplants.
Is PRP Hair Restoration® Right for Me?
PRP hair restoration® is optimal for men and women with symptoms of male or female pattern baldness. But there are health issues, medications, and life choices that can result in disqualification from getting the treatment, including:
- Liver disease
- Skin disease
- Metabolic disorders
- Thyroid disease
- Being on blood thinners
- Being a heavy smoker
- Using drugs or alcohol
- Low platelet count
- History of infections
We understand you want to restore your hair, but it’s important you inform us about your medical history and the medications you are taking so we can protect your overall health. If PRP hair restoration® is not right for you, there are other options we can try.
What Can I Expect During My PRP Hair Restoration® Session in Palm Coast?
If you qualify as a good candidate for PRP hair restoration®, you can expect an appointment that will last 30 minutes to one hour in length. We will begin by applying a topical anesthetic to your scalp to ease any discomfort from the injections, also known as micro-needling.
Once you begin to feel the numbing effect, we will draw blood from the crook of your arm as gently as possible. Your comfort is important to us during this time, so please report any dizziness, nausea, or sweatiness. A blood draw could also result in a decrease in your heart rate and blood pressure, which could make you faint.
After Drawing Blood
After we draw the blood, we will place it in a centrifuge that will spin it rapidly for ten minutes to separate it into three parts:
- Platelet-poor plasma
- Platelet-rich plasma
- Red blood cells
We will then extract the platelet-rich plasma layer using a syringe and inject it into the locations on your scalp needing treatment for hair loss. Patients typically need three initial PRP hair restoration® sessions over four to six weeks to begin seeing results.
There is no downtime necessary after your appointment, so you can go back to work or school. However, we will ensure you recover fully from a blood draw before you leave our office.
Side Effects of PRP Hair Restoration®
As for the side effects of the PRP hair restoration® itself, there are no life-threatening side effects to worry about. However, there are minor risks to consider. For instance, you could potentially experience side effects such as headaches, itching, swelling, scar tissue, and temporary bleeding at the injection sites.
In rare cases, you could also develop an infection treatable with antibiotics. Patients also report tissue damage, nerve damage, blood vessel injury, an allergic reaction to the anesthetic, and injection point calcification.
Again, these are rare side effects, and all are treatable. Most should disappear shortly after the therapy session, but you should let us know immediately if you experience any of them during or after your treatment.
Does PRP Hair Restoration® Actually Work?
PRP hair restoration® can stimulate hair growth and improve the appearance and thickness of hair follicles. It can even be helpful after hair transplants.

It’s not a cure for baldness, but patients in a study of the effects of the treatment reported a reduction in hair loss and an increase in their hair count, results that make PRP hair restoration® a promising treatment option (Stem Cells Translational Medicine).
You should begin to see results in four to six weeks after the three initial sessions.
Is It Permanent?
PRP hair restoration® isn’t a permanent solution for hair loss. After the three initial sessions, you should experience new hair growth during the next 18-24 months.
But you will need a regular maintenance session every four to six months to maintain your new hair growth. Results take time but are worth it for your self-confidence.
How Much Does PRP Hair Restoration® Cost?
The cost depends on your location, the quality of the equipment and clinic personnel, and whether you want to add hair growth supplements to your treatment.
We are a cash practice; we do not accept insurance. So, clients must pay out of pocket for our services. Insurance usually considers this therapy a cosmetic procedure anyway and likely wouldn’t cover it.
